Walking in San Berillo: the periphery in the center

The San Berillo district of Catania is located in the heart of the historic center of Catania. The district has undergone a major urban operation of disemboweling and expulsion of its inhabitants in Italy, after World War II. The lack of an overall vision of recovery of what is left of the ancient San Berillo neighborhood, has ghettoized and left to decay this unique area in the city’s history.
The c
itizen-led walking conversations through the streets of neighbourhood are one of the participatory tools used by “Trame” to spread and share the knowledge about the material and immaterial heritage of San Berillo. It will cross the history of the district through the social changes that characterized it from the past until now, involving inhabitants, telling anecdotes, mixing different fields of knowledge. The contents of these strolls are the results of many years of field research with a based context approach. Visit the association’s website!
